Up the Scena/Schennaberg mountain

This medium-difficulty MTB tour in Schenna is recommended for experienced bike enthusiasts. The Scena/Schennaberg mountain can be conquered in around 3.5 hours and promises marvellous views of all of Meran and Environs. Begin your journey on the paved road from Schenna to Verdins, following it up to the mountain farms of the Scena/Schennaberg mountain. Shortly before the Taser Alm mountain hut, turn right towards Greitererhof farm and follow the hiking trail to Eggerhof farm. A fantastic view of Meran and Environs awaits you here. The route continues along the Taser Höhenweg high mountain trail to the “Rabenschnabel” (raven’s beak). Here, you can expect some technically difficult sections with stone steps. You then continue along a forest path to a clearing at Gsteirerhof farm, and it’s downhill from there. Pass the mountain farms on the way back to St. Georgen and your MTB hotels in Schenna.

To Fragsburg Castle

The starting point is the centre of Schenna. Follow the paved road towards Meran. Shortly before the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, turn left onto the Via Labers road and up to Fragsburg Castle.

Experienced MTB holidaymakers in Schenna will appreciate this more challenging tour, which takes around 4.5 hours to complete. Cycle along the paved road from Schenna via Verdins and Prenn until you reach Hochwies. From there, continue to Klammeben on a gravel path. This is where the challenging part begins: the descent to Videgg and the Taser Alm mountain hut. Follow the gravel trail through forests and meadows, ending up back at your starting point in Schenna.

Hirzer tour – light

It leads from Schenna via the Riffianerweg trail down to the Maiser Waalweg trail and finally to the cycle path, which takes you to the valley station of the Hirzer cable car in Saltaus. Take the Hirzer cable car up to the Prenn middle station. Here you cycle along forest path no. 4 up to the Hochwies Inn, the Gompm Alm, and finally the Hirzer hut at around 2,000 metres above sea level. From there, the descent begins, leading past Rio di Bosco/Prantlbach, Klammeben, the mountain station of the Hirzer cable car, and along trail no. 40 to the Stafell hut. Via Oberkirn and Unterkirn, you finally return to the road to Verdins and the base camp for your MTB holiday: Schenna.

MTB from Schenna into Val Passiria/Passeiertal

This two-hour mountain bike tour takes cycling holidaymakers into the South Tyrolean Val Passiria/Passeiertal valley, past the birthplace of Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. From Schenna, the route follows the Riffianerweg trail down to the Waaler hut. This tour leads briefly along a dirt trail, then along the cycle path that follows the Passirio/Passer river into the valley to Saltaus and the valley station of the Hirzer cable car. The route continues past St. Martin to St. Leonhard, the main town of Val Passiria/Passeiertal.
