Here are our top tips for your holiday with your MTB in Schenna:

On Montescena/Schennaberg

This intermediate bike tour is recommended for experienced bikers. The tour is manageable in about 3.5 hours, promising wonderful views of Meran and Environs. Follow the paved road from Schenna to Verdins and high up to the farms of Mt. Montescena/Schennaberg. Shortly before the Taser, turn right to Greitererhof and follow the hiking trail to Egger. Enjoy the fantastic panorama, before continuing on to the Taser high trail until you reach Rabenschnabel (Raven’s Beak). Here, you find a few challenging passages (with stone steps), before you reach a forest trail, which leads you to a clearing at Gsteirerhof and downhill. The trail leads you past mountain farms back to SSt. Georgen and your holiday home in Schenna.

To Fragsburg Castle

For those who would like to visit a picturesque castle during your MTB holiday in Schenna, we recommend the 2-hour MTB tour from Schenna to Fragsburg Castle with a medium level of difficulty. The starting point is the centre of Schenna. Follow the paved road towards Meran. Shortly before the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, turn left onto Via Labers and up to Fragsburg Castle.

Stafell circuit tour

Experienced MTB holidaymakers in Schenna choose this more demanding 4.5-hour tour. Cycle along the paved road from Schenna via Verdins and Prenn up to Hochwies. There we continue on a gravel road to Klammeben. Here begins the challenging part: the descent to Videgg and the Taser. Follow the trail on gravel, through forest and meadows back to the starting point in Schenna.

Hirzer tour light

MTB holidaymakers should plan 5 hours in Schenna for this tour. It leads from Schenna via the Riffian trail down to the Mais irrigation trail and finally to the cycle path, which takes you to the valley station in Saltaus. Take the Hirzer cable car up to the middle station to Prenn. Here, cycle on the forest path no. 4 up to the Hochwies restaurant, to the Gompm Alm, and finally to the Hirzer hut at about 2,000 m above sea level. The descent to Rio di Bosco/Prantlbach begins there, then to Klammeben, to the top station of the Hirzer cable car, and on path no. 40 to the Stafel hut. Via Oberkirn and Unterkirn, you finally come back to the road to Verdins and to your base camp for MTB holidays: Schenna.

From Scena/Schenna to Val Passiria/Passeiertal

This 2-hour tour takes bikers to the South Tyrolean Val Passiria/Passeiertal, past the birthplace of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. From Schenna, take the Riffian trail down to the Waaler mountain hut. This tour leads briefly along the field road, then on the cycle path, along the Passiria/Passier river towards Saltaus and to the valley station of the Hirzer cable car.
