The suspension bridge

A must-see attraction on the Merano High Mountain Trail is the 55-metre-long suspension bridge. Opened in 2017, it stretches between the Texel and Unterstell cable car stations, offering breathtaking views of the “thousand steps gorge”. A favourite among hikers, this bridge is accessible throughout the year.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle is a botanical garden with over 80 garden landscapes from all over the world. This 12-hectare area includes diverse gardens, scenic viewpoints, interactive exhibits, and the South Tyrolean Provincial Museum of Tourism. The gardens also host concerts by renowned artists.

Schenna Castle

Dating back to the 14th century, Schenna Castle is one of the most historically significant castles in South Tyrol. It is located in the heart of the Meran mountains and hosts a variety of exhibitions and collections, including an art collection with works by Tyrolean artists and a weapons collection with artefacts spanning six centuries.

The Tappeinerweg promenade

The Tappeinerweg is one of the most impressive promenades in Europe. It runs around 100 metres above Meran, is six kilometres long, and stretches from Gratsch to the centre of Meran. Along this scenic route, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views and a variety of spots to rest and relax.

The mausoleum

The mausoleum in Schenna is one of the most outstanding examples of neo-Gothic religious architecture in South Tyrol. Built in the 19th century, it is the final resting place of Archduke Johann of Austria. The mausoleum is located next to the parish church in Schenna and is part of the Schenna Castle estate.

St George’s Church

St George’s Church in Schenna is a historic 12th-century round church. It was originally the chapel of St George’s Castle, which has since fallen into ruin. The church is adorned with 14th-century frescoes depicting scenes from the life of St George and other saints. Its Gothic winged altar depicts St George fighting the dragon.

Tirolo/Tirol Castle

Once the home of the Counts of Tyrol, this castle now houses the Provincial Museum of Cultural and Provincial History, showcasing a vast and historically significant collection. Additionally, the castle is home to a bird care centre offering daily flight shows.

Terme Merano/Therme Meran

The Terme Merano/Therme Meran, designed by renowned architect Matteo Thun, is a 52,000m² spa and park complex. Situated in the heart of the famous spa town of Meran, this facility boasts a spa and vitality area, multiple swimming pools, a medical spa, a fitness centre, and a bistro, all surrounded by a lush Mediterranean park.

Situated in St. Leonhard, within Val Passiria/Passeiertal, the Sandwirt is the historic birthplace of Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. Today, it is a museum that links the farming tradition of Val Passiria/Passeiertal with historically significant events. Its impressive exhibition brings the turbulent times of the Napoleonic era to life.

Messner Mountain Museum Juval

In its permanent exhibition, the MMM Juval in Kastelbell focuses on the defining element of the local natural landscape, the mountains, as well as their myths and religious significance.
